🏠 Empadronamiento (town hall registration) Registering at the town hall where you live. Almost everything builds on it: health card, school, arraigo and nationality. 🔢 NIE (foreigner identity number) A personal number for dealing with Spain: buying, signing, inheriting, working. It is a number, not a card and not a residence permit. 🪪 TIE: first card and fingerprints The physical card that proves your legal residence. You ask for it in person with fingerprints, and there is a one-month deadline. 💼 Arraigo sociolaboral (2 years + job contract) Residence for exceptional circumstances if you have been in Spain two years and have one or more job contracts. 🎓 Arraigo socioformativo (2 years + training) Residence for exceptional circumstances if you have been in Spain two years and study, or commit to, specific training. 🔁 Renewing your residence and TIE You file in the two months before it expires. Up to three months after is still accepted, but you can be fined. 🇪🇸 Citizenship by residence The end of the road: after the required years of legal, continuous residence you apply online to the Ministry of Justice. Appointments (cita previa) Appointments are free and only booked on the official site. Nobody may sell you one: paying for an appointment is a scam or a crime.
